I wonder how you create a living thing with your hands. How do you build something out of nothing? The thought of the task baffles me, but to my father, it is mundane.

Your Initial Consultation

Dr. Menick reviews each problem during an initial office consultation. The goals of surgery, the potential procedures, and the benefits and risks of surgery are discussed. The length of the consultation will depend upon your questions and the problem. It may be helpful to prepare a list of questions to bring with you, so nothing is forgotten. Understanding a potential surgery and  its gains and risks are important. The consultation is an opportunity for both the patient and the physician to understand the problem and the best way to approach it. They must formulate a plan and decide whether surgery is appropriate, understand the pros and cons of no treatment or various operative approaches and techniques, and make a decision that seems best for that patient.

It is impossible to guarantee the result of surgery. All surgery has risks and possible complications. Complications can delay the result and may require additional procedures before the expected final result is obtained. Rarely, a complication will limit the desired result. The patient must accept the inconvenience, discomfort, and the costs of surgery, the risks of surgery and the risk of complications. Never undergo surgery without considering the pros, cons, and risks.

Dr. Menick will provide a general outline of future surgery at the initial visit. For more complicated problems, he often takes additional time to review the chart, old records, office photographs and past operative reports at greater length. Once a final plan is completed, it is rediscussed at a future visit in the office or, if the patient is from out of town, by e-mail or phone.

What to bring:

Prior medical records and operative reports are very helpful. Bring them to your initial consultation. You do not need to bring actual x-rays. These materials can be faxed or emailed to allow review prior to your visit.
For non-cosmetic procedures, bring your insurance card.

Arrival:

Please come to the office 15 minutes before your schedule appointment to complete the necessary paperwork. You may also print the required forms from our website and complete them prior to arrival. If you are unable to make your appointment, please call 24 to 48 hours in advance to cancel.

To schedule surgery:

A $300 deposit for non-insurance procedures is required to secure a specific surgery date.

Surgery follow-up:

Follow-up visits and special post-operative care vary according to the procedure. Details will be discussed during your initial consultation. You will be provided with written pre-and post-op surgery instructions. They are also available on the website.
