I wonder how you create a living thing with your hands. How do you build something out of nothing? The thought of the task baffles me, but to my father, it is mundane.

I would like to take this opportunity to tell you what a magnificent doctor and artist you are! My two surgeries a few months ago - nose repair and facelift - changed my life. Everyone remarks how beautiful the work is. I feel I have lived on both sides of appearance; that is, going from droopy and haggard to looking vibrant and pleasing.

Breast Lift Patient Care

1. Due to the effect of sedative drugs, someone must drive the patient home and stay with her overnight.

2. Gauze dressing will be placed on your breasts and covered with an elastic bandage or supportive bra. These are removed the next day.

3. The patient may shower the day after surgery. Except for showering, a brassiere should be worn night and day for a week. No other dressing is needed. After that, a brassiere should be worn only in the daytime for six more weeks to support the breasts. You can usually return to work in 1 to 2 days. Discomfort after surgery is mild.

RISKS

1. Bleeding. Although uncommon, bleeding can occur after surgery. Avoid all Aspirin products, Ibuprofen (Motrin, Advil, etc.) and vitamin and herbal supplements for two weeks before and after surgery. Avoid exercise and excessive arm use after surgery for two weeks. Tylenol may be taken without risk. If a hematoma develops, it may be necessary to remove the hematoma in the operating room. No physician’s fee is charged to remove a hematoma. The patient is responsible for anesthesia, hospital operating room costs and /or replacement of an implant.

2. Infection. Infection is uncommon after any surgery, including a breast lift. If it does occur, however, and a breast implant was placed at the time of breast lift, the implant must usually be removed, if the implant space is also infected. It can usually be replaced after three or more months.

3. Scarring. The incisions employed for a breast lift surgery involve three incisions. One incision is made around the areola. Another runs vertically from the bottom edge of the areola to the crease underneath the breast. The third is a horizontal incision beneath the breast that follows the natural curve of the breast crease. Sutures are placed so that stitch marks are uncommon. There is some black-and-blue for one to two weeks around the incisions. There may be some slight crusting along the incisions for that time. All incisions become red, raised and lumpy a month after surgery and then become soft, pale and flat over the next six to twelve months. Although all scars are visible, they are usually relatively hidden in the normal color and contour of the breast. Most women find the improvement in breast shape and size worth the scar.
